Colonials end Scarlet Fliers' divisional streak

Freehold girls basketball coach Jen Brzucki said her team “kind of crumbled at the end” when it played at four-time defending Shore Conference Class B North champion Neptune on Dec. 14 and lost by four points.
When the teams played for the second time on Thursday evening, the Colonials were able to finish the job.
Senior guard Kim Dana went 4-for-4 from the line in the final minute to break a 56-all tie and cap the scoring as unranked Colonials took out their second top 10 team in the last three days with a 60-56 win over Neptune, No. 6 in the Asbury Park Press Top 10.
The loss ended the Scarlet Fliers’ 59-game winning streak against Class B South opponents dating back to a 70-53 loss to Freehold on Jan. 15, 2008.
Dana finished with 14 points, senior guard and NJIT recruit Camerin Spahn finished with a team-high 18, and sophomore Sophia Duffy had 14 for Freehold (10-3, 5-2), which beat No. 3 and previously unbeaten Middletown South on Tuesday, 40-39.
For Neptune (9-4, 6-1), senior guard Ivy Harrington finished with a game-high 21 points.
With the loss, the longest divisional winning streak in the Shore Conference now belongs to Jackson Memorial, which has won 42 consecutive games in Class A South.
